A decent stop-over but no views from the parking area due to the tall hedges, but once out of the entrance the vista is beautiful - overlooking the reservoir and rolling hills.View all reviews by rocksaga
There's a hotel/restaurant at 2 miles back towards Pateley Bridge and another pub a further mile away. Nothing much in the opposite direction.
Walking is on the narrow road but fairly light with traffic.
Nothing in the way of services (not even a litter bin) but it was clean and well kept, although a little boggy in places.
There's an honesty box with suggested donations and I'd gladly pay again if it keeps the spot open.
The Cockerel is no more! At least he wasn't on duty in Aug 2020. Nice overnight spot. Road typically Dales, narrow/twisty. Plenty of traffic passing thru day but v. quiet at night. Most cars park for a 5 minute visit at nearby viewing platform then go without paying. Farmer turns up to empty donation box around 5pm so can see if you've paid. It's a mile walk south to food at Wath (Sportsmen's Arms). A mile or so north is Ramsgill village pub, all on the road (no path so take gt care at nightView all reviews by regius
Stayed here for 1 night on 10/08/20 lovely place well worth the £5 donation that you put in the metal box near the entrance thats collected by the farmer each afternoon. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. We left the site very clean taking all our rubbish away with us. Thank you to the farmer for providing a lovely safe place to stop for the night.View all reviews by jhamby
Stayed one night. Very quiet. NotView all reviews by allylee
Completely level but good enough.honesty box with a Suggested donation of £5 for overnight stay. No facilities or bins but there are picnic benches on grasses area. Limited views due to hedgerow but well worth the money.
Great location. Quiet - except for the resident Cockerel which, as previously mentioned, is a right royal PITA from 4am to 7am! We were tempted to eat it! Early night recommend as you will be getting an early morning...View all reviews by andysal2
A great location. Next to the resovoir. A suggested £5 donation is asked for at the 'donation' box. Although a lot of people failed to contribute, I believe it was worth it.View all reviews by PVUK
Quiet at night, not perfectly level, but good enough. No light pollution so a great skywatch location too.
Opposite is a RSPB viewing platform overlooking the bird life, so if you are a 'twitcher', then a great spot for you.
WARNING!=The cockerel, although friendly during the day, will wake you up at early EARLY doors!
Great spot, cross the quiet road to the reservoir & wildlife viewing platform. Signs welcome overnight stays for a suggested fee of £5.00 (honesty box). Expect an early morning wake-up call from the resident Cockerel.View all reviews by jimleigh
A nice spot, which is very quiet once the day-time and early evening traffic finishes. I was there on a clear evening and you get a great view of the stars and birdsong which you wouldn’t if you stayed in Pateley Bridge for the night.View all reviews by nicklaura
Small point, as you approach from Pateley Bridge you’ll pass a sign that says ‘picnic spot and car-park, half a mile’. It’s actually quite a lot further than that, just in case you’re looking for it in the dark as I was.
Great little car park, nice view of reservoir, blocks required if you need to be levelView all reviews by bobl
Nice quiet spot for a stop over, plenty of room but we were the only ones there. They do ask you to put a fiver in the box, it's worth it because I didn't see any other places you could stop near the reservoir.View all reviews by christhefisherman
We stayed the night recently and it was quiet and very dark - take a torch. There was no one else there, so plenty of room. There are a couple of picnic benches but no other facilities. The car park was a bit muddy. There is a sign saying that it is £5 to stay overnight and there is an honesty box. Nice views to wake up to! Approaching from Pateley Bridge, there is a sign saying that the car park is half a mile away, but it is more like 2 miles with a sign just by the car park entrance.View all reviews by tsettle
Stopped to check this site out as we were passing, there are signs about paying for parking, £5.00 for overnight which is fine but not free though to be honest I don't know if anyone collects the money as there is no way to pay at the site.View all reviews by majo
Although we moved and paid more than this site I feel what we got at the other site was better value.
Also the walks here look like they are on the road which probably not busy but very narrow.
Really nice place, special almost. There is plenty of space here with odd vehicle passing on the road. Will come here again. Opposite overlooking the reservoir is a viewing area enclosure. This reservoir has a 6 mile walk around it. I would imagine in summer its a popular stop. No restrictions regarding overnight sleeping/parking.View all reviews by pyrobruce
