Parking area created as part of a millennium project to service a number of footpaths into adjoining forestry and wildlife rich Ettrick Marshes. The parking area is of level hardstanding that is divided into several bays that can be easily accessed from the B709. The B709 is a very well maintained, single track carriageway, with passing places and care needs to be taken as it is regularly used by large timber Lorries extracting timber from the surrounding forests. There are no facilities on site, but there is an excellent licensed Cafe & Bistro at the Old School in nearby Eskdalemuir.
As well as excellent walking opportunities nearby (see www.ettrickandyarrow.co.uk) the site lies close to the birth place of James Hogg the 'Ettrick Shepherd' and the Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Buddhist Centre at Eskdalemuir and to the Prehistoric Trail in that area.
