Dearden wood campsite is situated in 10 acres of woodland, which was originally planted by North West water in the 1930's. Once the site closed in the 70's, the Girl Guides secured the site as a campsite for local Guides, Scouts and Duke of Edinburgh groups. Due to the site slowly deteriorating, the local groups stopped using it and the site gradually became redundant for many years. The Law family purchased the site in 2014 and have slowly improved the rustic facilities on site for the children and managed the woodland back to good health. Over the last 4 years, the campsite has been transformed and along with the assistance of Myerscough College and some local people and local businesses, the woodland is receiving the regeneration attention that it deserves.
Following a request from a local councillor, the owners applied for a licence for public camping, which was confirmed in 2019.
Scout, Guide and Duke of Edinburgh groups remain our main priority and public camping fits in around these bookings. This ensures that the site is always available for local groups to enjoy.
