Our AIRE site is located on the banks of the wonderfully scenic Clatteringshaws Loch. We're situated 7 miles south of the pretty village of New Galloway and 14 miles north of the popular market town of Newton Stewart, adjacent to the A712 (The Queen's Way).
New Galloway offers a small but well-stocked community grocery store and The CatStrand Arts & Visitor Centre, which features a licensed cafe, gift shop and hosts a range of regular events including theatre, music and cinema. For more details please visit: https://gcat.scot/venue/catstrand/
Newton Stewart offers a range of cafes, pubs, shops, fuel stations, cinema and a Sainsbury's supermarket.
Our AIRE enjoys a very rural site which lies within both the 'UNESCO Galloway & SA Biosphere' and the 2009 IDA designated 'Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park' where, on clear nights, visitors can enjoy breath-taking sunsets and spectacular starry skies. You might even spot the occasional aurora! For those with an interest in peace, quiet, the absence of light pollution and an opportunity to indulge in a spot of stargazing, our site is the perfect overnight stop.
For those who enjoy walking, a ramble past Bruce's Stone and on around the Loch is a pleasant way to pass an hour or two.
For those who enjoy watersports, the Galloway Activity Centre at nearby Loch Ken offers a range of experiences - for further information please visit: https://www.lochken.co.uk/
For further information on what to see and do in the Galloway Forest Park generally (including walking, cycle and driving routes) please take a look at: https://forestryandland.gov.scot/visit/forest-parks/galloway-forest-park
The AIRE at Clatteringshaws Loch can accommodate up to 5 self-contained motorhomes/campervans with a maximum length of 7 metres. A black and grey disposal facility is available on the site.
Due to the Dark Sky Park designation and its significance, we insist that all visitors obey the following conditions:
No external lighting of any kind permitted after dusk (with the exception of hand torches)
Blinds must be closed after dusk to prevent light-spill from vehicle windows
Bonfires/campfires are not permitted anywhere on the site or surrounding land
Dogs are welcome, but, please note:
must be kept on a lead at all times
clean up after your dog and remove the waste from the site
You can check availability, book and make payment via AIREStop or RingGo.
